Local News.On Sunday, May 29th, your Lansdowne Community League Council hosted a community BBQ and Annual General Meeting at the Hall, our first event since the pandemic to feature food & drink, use of the hall’s indoor space, and a bouncy castle for the kids! Thank you to everyone who attended and made the event such a success. The AGM gave us the opportunity to celebrate the contribution of council members who are moving on, a reshuffling of some current volunteer positions, and the addition of some fresh faces as well. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the following volunteers for their past contributions to the community:

Hello Lansdowners. I’m Alex Carnegie and I am so excited to be your incoming co-president. Along with Jeff, I am looking forward to making Lansdowne the best community in the city. I grew up here, my grandparents were one of the first residents of Lansdowne, and my parents bought into the neighbourhood when I was 2. When I got married to my husband Jeff, we were living in Summerside. But, when we started looking for a forever home, I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else but here! We purchased our house in 2019 and now our sons Spencer (8) and Thomas (6) attend Lansdowne school.
When I joined the community league board in 2019 as the Vice President, I found it was a great way to meet new people in the neighbourhood. I was able to work alongside now past president Leah Fiorillo and the rest of the board to find ways to connect as a community before and throughout the pandemic. Now, I am happy to be taking on this new role alongside Jeff as co-president. I feel very lucky to be part of such a wonderful team and look forward to meeting more members of this great community now that we can gather again.
Alex

In the summer of 2013, my wife Kelsey and I were fortunate enough to take possession of our bungalow here in Lansdowne. We didn’t just find the perfect home – but the perfect neighbourhood. It was immediately apparent that Lansdowne was a true community, with caring neighbours and friends. Case in point: The family we purchased our home from didn’t leave Lansdowne – they moved around the corner. This is a practice I’m sure we are all familiar with, because why would anyone ever want to leave? Over the ensuing years, we welcomed two children to our family, Mickey (8) and Margot (2), and our roots here in Lansdowne have only grown stronger. Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and the rest of the world have seen a lot of change since we moved here, certainly not all for the better. But what has been reliably constant is the exceptional community we all share here in Lansdowne – and that’s thanks to the past Community League volunteers and all of Lansdowne’s residents. Kelsey and I are happy to join the team of volunteers who have made and continue to make Lansdowne the hidden gem that it is. My sincere thanks go to Alex, your past-VP and current co-president, for encouraging me to become involved and sharing such an important role in our community. Cheers, Jeff

Hello neighbours! How did we end up here? Prior to Lansdowne, we lived in South Terwillegar in what we thought was our “forever home.” The year our eldest Finley started kindergarten, we found out that the school boundaries were changing due to overcrowding. Our new designated school was Lansdowne. Well, we loved it so much that we moved here! Finley is now in grade seven at Avalon, and his brothers Odin and Hugo are in grades five and one at Lansdowne. Matt and I love the sense of community here. The area is beautiful, but the true gems are the people here! I am excited for this opportunity to serve the community! Rosanna

There is nothing better than a night at the ballpark in our beautiful river valley. While their intended debut last summer was postponed due to the COVID pandemic, live baseball has returned to RE/MAX Field with your Edmonton Riverhawks, a new addition to the West Coast League (WCL). The West Coast League has been operating since 2005 with a focus on developing college talent, and 2022 marks Edmonton’s first entry into the fray. The WCL features high-level talent, with many past athletes moving on to professional baseball careers, some even in the major leagues. We Edmontonians have always been spoiled by our amazing ballpark, and this summer things will be even better. Fans will immediately notice the new artificial turf, LED lighting, and high-definition scoreboard. Let’s go, Riverhawks!
